On My Knees

I’ve wrapped myself
from the eyes that pry
from the tongues that lie
and from those who want nothing
but a downfall

Take what you will
Eat my flesh ’til you’re ill
chastise and smear me
if it makes you stronger

But know
that I shall not tear
nor will I declare
that I’m down on my knees
because of you

It is He who decreed
that while on my knees
My heart be at peace
And I swear

With hardship comes ease.

  1. This has to be one of my favourite poems. It struck me hard as I’m beginning to realise the people who are really there for me when I need them. Please make your pieces longer. God bless you.

  2. Oh, wow. Chantelle, your comment is bittersweet. I love that you could relate to the piece, but also sad that you too have had a touch of sadness related to backstabbing. Thank you for your comment, it’s brightened my day and I’ll see what I can do about writing longer pieces (I struggle with that!). 🙂
